Read the text carefully then do the activities:

The pictures of adults and children
dying from hunger and diseases in Africa as
well as the photos of thousands of hopeless people having lost all their
possessions after the passage of a violent storm or a terrible earthquake are
scenes that frequently move the world. Their sight makes the whole planet aware
of the terrible spectacle of sorrow and death that affect human communities.
Thanks to the power of mass media and especially of television, everyone gets
shocked at the view of dead bodies being buried under tons of dust, concrete or
mud that have collapsed over them. Our feelings get upset when we look at the
distressed and panic-stricken faces of the survivors who not only find it
difficult to grasp the scope of the terrible fate that has caught them in its
merciless grips but who also bear in their eyes an air of total despair and
powerlessness because they do not know what to do in order to survive.

But one the first emotions are
controlled, people everywhere recover the sense of reality and take the
decision to do their utmost to save the living from the harsh reality they are
thrown into.

It is during such occasions that we see the
positive role that mass media play for the creation of a framework where
nations whatever their differences are brought closer to each other and ready
to offer mutual help and support.

The tragedies that reporters cover
and broadcast to the international community so vividly never miss their target
since they systematically produce in most of us a spirit of solidarity and
actions of generosity that no political calculation can destroy or divert from
its noble aims. They are magical moments which bind during some time the
various communities of the world. They are certainly an initial step toward
more tolerance and better coexistence among nations.
